Re. staying in Riviera Maya?

Is there a “downtown” area in R. Maya? We don’t want to rent a car and don’t want to get stuck eating every meal at the hotel.
I want to know if there are lots of cafes, shops, restaurants in one area. I found out how far Cancun is and we’ll take the bus but for local eating purposes.

They need to be:
Somewhat reasonable (below $20/entree)
Good food (no food poisoning worries)
Different Cuisines (Italian, Mediterranean, Asian, Mexican, etc.)

We were just at a Riviera Maya resort and every day they would play a song that contained “More margarita, rita, rita…more margarita…woohoo” We had a blast dancing to this song and I would love to find somewhere I can purchase or download it.
